What Is a Hangar Door?
A hangar door is a bottom-up folding door made of double-sided PVC fabric, used in buildings with very large openings where durability against the environment matters — shipyards, hangars, mines and factories.
Wind load on the door is transferred via horizontal guides to vertical columns fixed to the building, so the door is minimally affected by wind. Special posts allow adjacent doors to combine into much larger openings — size is almost unlimited. Hangar doors also resist welding and grinding sparks and blasting media.

How Does a Hangar Door Work?
Double-layer PVC fabric is fixed to internal bracing. Synchronised twin motors wind steel cables onto drums and fold the door upwards; wind load is transferred from horizontal guides to vertical columns.
An opening command is given from the control panel (manual/auto selectable).
Two motors run synchronised via drums and gears, winding the cables.
The fabric folds upwards with the bracing; polyamide rollers ensure quiet movement.
Upper and lower limit switches end the travel; in a cable break, mechanical cams lock the door.
How to Choose the Right Hangar Door
- Specify opening size and special needs such as crane access.
- Request a design for your site wind load.
- Define fabric and steel colours.
- State durability needs for blasting or welding areas.
- Plan the control panel and button locations.
Maintenance & Service Tips
- Have cables, drums and brakes inspected regularly.
- Test limit and emergency stop switches.
- Inspect the fabric for tears and wear.
- Keep side guides and brake rails clean.

Hangar Door – Frequently Asked Questions
Where are hangar doors used?
In shipyards, aircraft hangars, mines and large factories with very large openings where environmental durability matters.
What is the wind resistance?
Our large fabric hangar doors resist 140 km/h; wind load is transferred to vertical columns.
How large can a hangar door be?
Special posts allow adjacent doors to combine; size is almost unlimited and doors are built to any dimension.
Will the door fall if a cable breaks?
No. Mechanical cams on both sides lock into the aluminium rail and emergency stop switches halt the motor.
Is there a warranty?
Yes — 2 years against manufacturing and installation defects (excluding natural disasters and misuse).
What temperatures can it handle?
The double-sided polyester-coated PVC fabric works from -35 °C to +70 °C.
How fast does it open?
Operating speed is 10–12 m/min; opening time depends on door height.
Can it be designed for crane access?
Yes. Special designs such as crane doors can be produced to suit your facility.
