What Is a Road Blocker?
A road blocker (wedge barrier) is a technical element used at main and secondary gates of high-security sites, blocking vehicles with a steel plate that rises from the ground. It operates by hydraulic pressure with a steel body and electromechanical components, controllable remotely or by hand.
The system is designed not only as an impact-resistant housing; all components are reinforced against attack. Hydraulic operation ensures continuous duty even at the busiest gates, and it can be synchronised with automatic bollards and other barriers for maximum defence.

How Does a Road Blocker Work?
A steel plate embedded in the ground rises by hydraulic pressure to physically block vehicles, working with a control panel, warning devices and safety sensors.
For authorised access the operator or automation lowers the blocker.
The hydraulic unit lowers the plate flush with the road.
After passage the blocker rises again; flashing or traffic lights warn.
In an emergency, optional 2 s rise raises it instantly.
How to Choose the Right Road Blocker
- Define the threat and security level of the site.
- Select blocker size for the lane width.
- Consider emergency rise and UPS options.
- Plan drainage and a drainage pump.
- Design synchronisation with bollards and boom barriers.
Maintenance & Service Tips
- Have the hydraulic system and oil level checked.
- Test drainage and pump.
- Check warning devices and photocell.
- Ensure hydraulic heating works in cold weather.
